Seasons: Free Discussion Programs for Older Adults
Meaningful conversations. Shared memories. The opportunity to be heard.
Seasons is a free program from the ARISE Foundation that brings older adults together for guided conversations about the things that matter in life.
Our ready-to-print, large-print programs are designed for nursing homes, assisted living communities, memory care units, adult day programs, and independent living communities. No special training or preparation is required.

About us
Seasons is a free discussion program offered by the Arise Foundation to older adults in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, memory care units, adult day programs, and independent living communities all over the world.
Seasons takes its name from the ancient wisdom of Ecclesiastes: that every human life moves through seasons, each one real, each one worthy of attention. The program brings older adults together - in person or virtually - to talk honestly about the things that matter most in their season of life. It is not a lecture, not a class, and not a therapy group. It is a conversation, led by a warm facilitator, using materials designed specifically for older eyes, older hands, and older hearts.
Constructive Aging Program
For forty years, the Arise Foundation has built life-skills and enrichment programs that help people live well.
Our Constructive Aging program brings that work to older adults — and we would be honored to offer it to the residents in your care, at no cost to your community.
Seasons is a simple daily gathering. In thirty to forty-five minutes, residents enjoy a warm story or idea and then talk it over together — good company, gentle conversation, and the dignity of being truly heard. We have hundreds of these programs, enough for a fresh one every day, so there is always something new to look forward to.
Best of all, it is never rushed — each visit is a small, unhurried portion, a topic unfolding gently across many days, like a good meal enjoyed slowly.
Every program is written in large print and plain language, and made for nursing homes, assisted living, memory care, adult day programs, and independent living.
The stories lift up older adults as the heroes they are, and the discussions invite memory, laughter, and connection.
What we provide: all the programs, in large print, ready to print and read aloud — free of charge, with no special training or preparation required.
What you provide: a comfortable space, a little time, and a willing voice. Any caring staff member or volunteer can lead a session.
This library was built over 40 years, with a single conviction: that older adults are not a problem to be managed. They are people to be served - with honesty, with warmth, and with materials worthy of them. It can be used in every setting - nursing homes, assisted living facilities, memory care units, and wherever older adults gather.
For the Unhurried Hours
There comes a season slower than the rest,
when time stops rushing, lets the heart catch up,
and all the years you carried, all you loved,
sit quietly beside you, like old friends.
This is the hour for stories, for the laugh
that finds you still, the hand that holds your own,
the song you half-remember, sung again —
no one is hurried here, and no one is alone.
So pull your chair a little closer in.
The table has been waiting all along.
What forty years have built was built for this:
that every voice be heard, that none sit lost.

What Happens in a Group Session
Older adults sit together — in a circle, at a table, or on a screen — and talk about things that matter.
Not medical advice. Not therapy. Just honest conversation among people who understand each other’s lives.
A facilitator opens with a question. People respond. Someone laughs. Someone tears up. Someone says “I never told anyone that before.”
By the end of the hour, strangers have become something closer to friends.
That is what this library is for. That is what 40 years of Arise programs have made possible.

What a Room Can Hold
A circle of chairs
A question asked in good faith
Someone who has not spoken in years
Finding, at last, the right room.

The Program's
Purpose
Seasons exists to end the loneliness that is epidemic among older adults. Group Participation - people sitting together, talking honestly about things that matter - is among the most powerful interventions available. Positive thoughts lead to positive outcomes.
This library makes that possible, anywhere, at no cost.
Who Can Use The Library
Any facility, program, or individual serving older adults is welcome to use these materials. Activity directors, social workers, chaplains, nurses, volunteers, and family members have all used this library.
No professional certification is required.
Who Can Lead These Programs
You do not need to be a trained professional to lead these programs. A caring heart and an outgoing personality are enough. What matters most is bringing people together - to sit, to listen, to participate, and to share their opinions.
That simple act of coming together eases loneliness.
